🔮 Spells & Rituals

Here we press the showiest blooms in the whole garden: the spells. Where potions are quiet bottled helpers, incantations are magic performed out loud — and some of them turn the wheel of the year itself.

How Spellcraft Works

An incantation in Wylde Flowers is a spell written down and then read aloud. The writing is the expensive part: Tara composes incantations at the desk in her workroom, and each one demands a good deal of magic plus special ingredients at the moment of writing. Once read aloud, the incantation is consumed — one scroll, one casting. Plan accordingly.

The coven performs a ritual around a stone circle at night.

Cast it Read aloud (some at specific places) The scroll itself — consumed on use

You cannot buy your way into new magic. Spells unlock by progressing the main story and by completing magical tasks for coven members — see The Craft: An Introduction for how the coven takes you under its wing. Keep your pantry and ore chest stocked; ingredient requests arrive without warning (Mining & Foraging is your friend).

The Season-Change Ritual

The single most important piece of magic in the game, and the one every new witch must tattoo on her heart:

Seasons in Fairhaven change only when the coven performs the season-change ritual. No ritual, no autumn. The calendar waits on the witches.

Each turning has its own ritual incantation — the Fall Ritual Incantation, for instance, is the working that carries Fairhaven from summer into fall — and these are cast at the coven circle, together, as a coven. The story teaches you the ceremony; ritual preparations also call for brewed components from your cauldron, so keep it warm.

Your first turning (To Summer it Up For You) teaches the supply chain’s shape: the Spirit Flame it requires wants an Essence of Copper (2 copper ore, run through the distillery) and Powdered Calcium (2 seashells, ground at the mortar and pestle). Which is to say — the mine and the beach are ritual suppliers. Stock both.

Before you say the words

Lore aside: the townsfolk think the seasons simply… happen. Generations of masked witches at a stone circle would beg, politely and anonymously, to differ.

Verified Spells & Incantations

There are roughly thirty incantations to learn across the story. Below are ones this journal can vouch for by name; treat effects marked briefly as summaries, and discover the rest in the wild.

Spell / Incantation What it does
Summon Rain Spell Calls rain for one day — the farmer-witch’s darling. See Weather Magic
Summon Wind Spell Sets the wind blowing for a day
Summon Storm Spell Whips up one storm of strong wind and lightning
Summon Night Spell Hurries the sun down when your best work starts after dark
Speed Time Spell Nudges the clock forward
Freeze Time Stops the clock while you catch up on chores
Reverse Time Spell Winds the day backward — mercy for the over-scheduled
Lockpick Incantation Opens what is locked (story applications abound)
Animal Shapeshifting Spell Lets Tara take an animal’s shape — see Familiars for why that’s wonderful
Fealty to the Fair Folk Spell A working tied to the fae — say no more here
Fall Ritual Incantation The coven ritual that turns summer to fall (cast at the coven circle)
Vanessa’s Wraith Banishment Spell A named witch’s working against a restless spirit — late-story business

⚠️ spoilers — several late spells (the banishment, the fae fealty, the shapeshifting) are welded to major story beats involving the coven’s history and the island’s hidden folk. The quest lines introduce them far better than a table can.

The time-bending spells deserve a special toast: between freezing, speeding, and reversing the day, an established witch simply owns the clock in ways a Chapter 1 farmer wouldn’t dare dream.

Broom Flying

Yes, you get the broom. Broom flight arrives via the story (a broom in working order is part of the fun — a certain quest line involves getting yours fixed up) and once you have it, crossing the island stops costing you your whole morning. Swooping over your own farm at dusk remains one of the game’s purest joys; the island map looks much friendlier from above.

Ritual Etiquette for the New Witch

  1. Never schedule a season ritual with crops in the ground. (Yes, again. It bears repeating.)
  2. Before writing a big incantation, check your magic and ingredients — the desk is honest about what it needs.
  3. Scrolls are single-use: cast the cheap ones freely, hoard the dear ones.
  4. Coven tasks between chapters are not filler — they’re where spell knowledge lives.

tip: cast Summon Rain the night before, then sleep in — the crops water themselves and so, in a sense, do you 🌙
