❀ The Fairhaven Field Guide ❀

💛 Friendship Guide

Friendship in Fairhaven grows exactly like anything else you plant: a little attention every day, the right nourishment, and patience through the seasons. Every one of the island’s roughly thirty residents — from Hazel down to the newest arrival — carries a hidden relationship value with Tara, and tending those values is how the island slowly opens itself to you.

If you haven’t yet met everyone, start with the Character Directory and make your rounds.

How Relationship Values Work

Each character has their own relationship meter that rises as you interact with them. You can’t see the sap flowing in real time, but the effects are unmistakable: warmer dialogue, new scenes, and — for eight particular residents — the possibility of something more (see the Romance Guide).

The meter responds to three things, in ascending order of potency:

Method Effort Effect
Daily conversation A moment of your time A small, steady gain — free, and it compounds
Gifts An item from your pocket A modest boost; a favorite gift gives a large one
Quests & story scenes Varies Meaningful jumps, woven into the character’s story

Daily Conversation

The humblest tool in the shed, and the most reliable. Speak to each resident once a day as you pass through town. It costs nothing but footsteps, and over a season those small gains add up to genuine friendship. Fold it into your errands: a word at the General Store, a hello at the diner, a nod to whoever’s haunting the bar.

Gifts

Approach a resident and choose the gift icon to hand over an item. Every gift helps at least a little, but each character keeps a short list of favorites that help enormously. The full botany of gift-giving — including how to discover those favorites — is pressed into its own page: Gift Preferences.

Quests

Residents will ask for your help — errands, favors, small crises. Completing a character’s quests deepens the bond substantially and frequently unlocks the next scene in their personal story. When a quest appears for someone you’re cultivating, prioritize it like a crop about to wilt. Side errands are catalogued in Side Quests.

talk first, THEN gift — make both count each day ❀

What Friendship Unlocks

Why tend thirty friendships? Because the island pays you back in kind.

Fairhaven’s main story is itself a slow act of trust — the coven doesn’t reveal itself to strangers. Treat every friendship as part of the larger working. See the Story Overview.

A Daily Tending Routine

A practical circuit for the sociable farmer:

  1. Morning — water the crops, then walk into town. Greet whoever crosses your path.
  2. Midday — make your shop rounds (General Store, bakery, butcher, smithy) and chat with each keeper while you’re there.
  3. Afternoon — deliver any gifts you’ve earmarked, favorites first.
  4. Evening — the bar and the diner gather the stragglers; catch anyone you missed.
  5. Always — accept quests when offered, and finish them promptly.

You won’t manage all thirty every single day, and you needn’t. Rotate through the island like a crop rotation: everyone gets sunlight eventually, and your chosen few get daily watering.
