đ§Ș Potion Brewing
Beneath Hazelâs perfectly respectable farmhouse sits a perfectly unrespectable basement: a witchâs workroom with a cauldron already bubbling in the corner. This page is your brewerâs companion â what goes in the pot, what comes out, and why your pantry is secretly a spell component chest.
The Workroom & the Cauldron
The basement opens up as the main story pulls Tara into the craft (see The Craft: An Introduction). It comes equipped with one cauldron; the ability to build additional cauldrons unlocks later in the game â the quest To Summer it Up For You rewards you with a cauldron blueprint, at which point your production line can finally match your ambitions.
The brewing workflow
- Learn a recipe. Potion recipes arrive through main story quests and magical tasks for coven members â the early quest Somethingâs Brewing is exactly what it sounds like. You canât brew what nobodyâs taught you.
- Gather ingredients. Recipes draw on all three of your daytime trades: crops youâve farmed, plants and oddments youâve foraged, and ores youâve mined.
- Set the cauldron going. Load the ingredients, start the brew, and go live your daylight life â like other crafting stations, the cauldron works while you donât.
- Collect and deploy. Bottle in hand, pour it, drink it, or deliver it to whichever coven member asked so nicely.
a brew begun at bedtime is a potion by breakfast đ
Verified Potions
The full recipe book is long â the names below are ones this journal has confirmed; youâll unlock plenty more, including powders and distillations, as your studies deepen.
| Potion | What it does |
|---|---|
| Miracle Grow Potion | Pour on seeds or plants to speed their growth; also works on crafting stations to hurry them along |
| Ultra Miracle Grow Potion | The same idea, considerably more of it â significant growth acceleration |
| Revitalizing Potion | Replenishes some of Taraâs energy â bottled second wind |
| Ardor-Cooling Potion | Dampens unwanted passion; the centerpiece of the quest Un-Love Potion #9 |
| Spirit Flame Potion | A ritual component â brewed for the covenâs seasonal workings |
A note on the two families youâll lean on hardest:
- The Miracle Grow line is the farmâs best friend. Speeding a slow crop toward harvest is lovely; speeding one to beat an incoming season change â before out-of-season crops vanish â is survival. And donât sleep on the crafting-station trick: a splash on a slow station hurries artisan goods too (Artisan Goods).
- Revitalizing Potions quietly rewrite your daily energy budget. A witch with a bottled second wind mines deeper, fishes longer, and still makes it to the circle by moonrise.
â ïž spoilers â some brews exist purely to move the story. Quest potions (banishing-adjacent brews, ritual components like the Spirit Flame, remedies for particular townsfolkâs particular problems) unlock exactly when the plot needs them. If a quest is waiting on a potion, the quest itself supplies the recipe â check your to-do list before panic-foraging.
Stocking the Witchâs Pantry
Brewing rewards the player who hoards a little of everything:
| Source | Keep on hand | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Farming | A few of each crop, each season | Recipes and coven tasks love asking for what just went out of season |
| Foraging | Wild plants, mushrooms, flowers | The classic potion base; free for the walking |
| Mining | Common ores and gems | The mineral notes in many magical recipes |
| Shops | Odds and ends | The general store fills gaps â the owner is, after all, sympathetic to the cause |
Lore aside: Lina Dahl-Johnson, who sells you half these ingredients over the counter by day, is the covenâs High Priestess by night. She knows exactly what youâre brewing. She will not say a word.
Brewerâs Habits Worth Forming
- Brew ahead of quests. If a coven member mentions needing something, start it that night â one story task asks for three Miracle Grow Potions at once.
- Never sell your last of anything. Tomorrowâs recipe wants it; see Money-Making for whatâs actually safe to sell.
- Queue before bed. The cauldron brews while you sleep; an empty cauldron overnight is a small tragedy.
- Expand when allowed. The moment extra cauldrons unlock, build them â late-game rituals and requests come thirsty.
tip: label nothing, sniff everything â kidding. drink the green one only if you brewed the green one đ
