❀ The Fairhaven Field Guide ❀

🔮 The Craft: An Introduction

Press this page flat and keep it close, dear reader — it marks the moment your tidy little farming journal sprouts a second, stranger volume. Wylde Flowers looks like a cozy farm sim right up until the night it very deliberately isn’t. You arrive in Fairhaven as Tara Wylde, come to help your grandmother Hazel on the family farm. You plant, you water, you pet the cow. And then, one evening, you follow Hazel out of the house and discover what she does after dark.

Hazel Wylde, 82 years young, is not merely the island’s most beloved grandmother. She is a witch — and the Elder of the Fairhaven Coven.

Two Lives, One Tara

The whole rhythm of the game grows from this discovery: farm by day, witch by night.

Hours Life What you’re doing
Daytime The farmer Crops, animals, fishing, befriending the townsfolk, running errands
Nighttime The witch Coven gatherings, magical lessons, brewing potions, learning spells

Neither life is optional. Your farm funds and feeds your magical studies (potion ingredients don’t grow themselves — well, actually they do, on your farm), and your magic circles back to make the farm sing. Budget your energy accordingly; the Energy, Time & Seasons page has the practical arithmetic.

The Fairhaven Coven

The coven meets in secret, and its members wear masks in the circle — a lovely bit of theater with a practical purpose. Even Tara doesn’t know at first which friendly faces from town are standing beside her in the firelight.

⚠️ spoilers — coven identities below. Skip this table if you’d rather unmask them yourself; it’s one of the story’s genuine delights.

Coven role Who they are by daylight
Elder Hazel Wylde, your grandmother
High Priestess Lina Dahl-Johnson, who runs the Dahl General Store
Member Amira Syed, the town doctor
Members Several more familiar faces — unmasked one by one as the story unfolds

That’s right: the woman who sells you seeds and the doctor who patches you up are both in the circle. When the unmasking quests arrive and you’re not sure whom to hand that potion to, Who Are the Witches? walks through every reveal. Fairhaven’s magic has always hidden in plain sight, tucked between the shops and the sheep.

Joining the circle

You don’t apply to the coven; the main story carries you into it. Progress the central quest line and Tara is initiated, taught, and gradually trusted with real responsibilities — including, eventually, the season-change ritual that the whole island quietly depends on. Coven members will also ask favors of you: gather this, brew that, be somewhere at moonrise. Do these gladly — magical tasks for coven members are how new spells and recipes come to you.

the masks come off in the story’s own time — don’t rush it 🌙

The Trouble in Town

Not everyone in Fairhaven would clap for a coven. Cameron Conner leads the League of the Conscious Mind, a fervently religious little society that is deeply suspicious of anything witch-shaped. Cameron himself is more complicated than a cartoon villain — he’s courteous, earnest, and genuinely convinced he’s protecting people — which is exactly what makes the tension interesting.

Much of the main story is about this fault line: a town that doesn’t know witches walk among them, a coven weary of hiding, and Tara standing with a boot in each world. Without spoiling the route, know that the game’s heart is reconciliation — the long, patient work of bringing coven and townsfolk together. Your friendships on both sides matter, so keep up your gift-giving even with the skeptics. Especially with the skeptics.

Lore aside: Fairhaven’s witches have kept the island thriving for generations — the townsfolk simply never knew whom to thank for the timely rains and turning seasons.

What the Craft Unlocks

As the story deepens, so does your toolkit. In rough order of appearance:

First Steps for a New Witch

  1. Follow the main story quests whenever one is available — magic is story-gated, and no amount of grinding substitutes.
  2. Say yes to every coven request. Each one tends to leave a new recipe, spell, or friendship in your pocket.
  3. Keep a shelf of common forage, ores, and crops; magical tasks love to ask for things you sold yesterday. Mining & Foraging tells you where everything hides.
  4. Harvest before the coven changes the season — out-of-season crops vanish. This rule has broken more hearts than any romance in the game.
