🐈⬛ Familiars & Cleocatra
A confession before we begin: for one whole season, this journal’s keeper called the little black-furred menace of Fairhaven “Kim,” in honor of a certain excellent deli. The cat has since made her actual name known, and it is far grander — an earlier draft of this very page bore the wrong name, now pressed flat and filed under “lessons.” Read on for the truth about Fairhaven’s magical creatures.
Cleocatra, the Familiar
Fairhaven has a cat, and the cat has opinions. Her name is Cleocatra — friendly, food-motivated, and possessed of a natural affinity for magic. Spend time winning her over (patience and kindness, as with all the best relationships) and she can be adopted, at which point she becomes Tara’s familiar — the game’s one true, formal familiar.
And being a witch’s familiar here is no honorary title:
| Perk of the partnership | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| A magical companion | A familiar at your side as the craft deepens — the classic witch’s arrangement, fully in effect |
| Fishing assistance | Yes — the cat fishes. Let no one tell you familiars don’t pull their weight |
| Exploration | Cleocatra can slip into places Tara’s human shape can’t reach |
| Conversation (translated) | Cleocatra has plenty to say; a magically-gifted friend translates. She is exactly as sassy as you hope |
The quest While the Cat’s Away is part of her tale, and the Animal Shapeshifting Spell (see Spells & Rituals) eventually lets Tara meet the four-legged world rather more directly — a witch and her familiar, finally speaking the same language of squeezing through gaps and judging everyone.
the way to any cat’s heart is patience and snacks — magical cats are no exception 🌙
Lore aside: witches keeping cats isn’t superstition in Fairhaven — it’s staffing.
Ravenwood Hollow: The Other Hidden Community
⚠️ spoilers — Ravenwood Hollow is a late-arriving secret (added in a major free update), and its reveal is a treat. Skip this half if you’d rather stumble onto it cold.
Just when you’ve made peace with the idea that your grandmother’s town is full of masked witches, Wylde Flowers raises you one: a hidden fae town called Ravenwood Hollow, tucked in a realm beyond a small lake near Hazel’s farm. Getting there is delightfully mundane by witch standards — a boat appears on the lake, the boat needs repairing, and a repaired boat sails somewhere maps decline to mention.
The Hollow is home to a small community of magical beings — four supernatural residents to meet, befriend, and (in at least one case) romance. Their introductions begin back on your own farm: Marty and Kim (Kim Izumi, of deli fame — the actual Kim of this page’s title, in a roundabout way) each turn up asking for help with strange occurrences around Fairhaven, and seeing those quests through unlocks the Hollow’s residents one by one.
Westley Vuk, the bookish werewolf
The Hollow’s best-documented resident — fittingly, since he keeps its bookshop:
| Name | Westley Vuk |
| Age | 35 |
| Occupation | Bookseller of Ravenwood Hollow |
| Condition | Werewolf |
| Disposition | Polite, dapper, alarmingly well-read in the arcane |
| Romanceable? | Yes — see Romance |
Westley came to Ravenwood Hollow seeking a cure for his lycanthropy and never found one — a gentle, melancholy thread that his friendship and romance arcs pick up beautifully. If your Tara has a weakness for tragic scholars with excellent tailoring, form an orderly queue.
The Hollow’s other residents deserve to introduce themselves — this journal will only say that “werewolf” is not the strangest entry on the town register, and that befriending them works much as it does in Fairhaven proper: show up, talk, give thoughtful gifts, repeat.
So — Does the Game Have a “Familiar System”?
Honest answer for the mechanically-minded: there is no sprawling familiar system — no stable of summonable companions, no familiar skill tree. What Wylde Flowers has instead is:
- One proper familiar — Cleocatra, adopted through play, with genuine perks (fishing, exploring, commentary).
- A shapeshifting witch — via spellcraft, Tara herself gets closer to the animal world than most games’ familiars ever manage.
- A whole town of magical beings — Ravenwood Hollow’s residents aren’t pets or companions but neighbors: characters with quests, friendships, and romance in the same rich vein as the character directory crowd.
Which is, frankly, the cozier design: the magic animals of Fairhaven aren’t inventory items. They’re cast members.
tip: befriend the cat before you need the cat — she remembers who fed her first 🌙
